The Central FSSAI License involves a more comprehensive application process, detailed documentation requirements, and enhanced regulatory scrutiny to ensure compliance with national food safety standards.
2026 Update: As per the revised FSSAI turnover criteria effective from April 2026, the Basic Registration limit has been increased to ₹1.5 crore, the State License threshold extends up to ₹50 crore, and businesses exceeding ₹50 crore turnover require a Central FSSAI License.

After receiving the application, the concerned food safety authority reviews the submitted information and supporting documents. In certain cases, especially for State and Central Licenses, the authorities may conduct an inspection of the business premises to assess food safety standards, hygiene practices, infrastructure, and compliance with FSSAI regulations. If any discrepancies are found, the applicant may be asked to provide additional information or make necessary corrections.
Once the application is successfully verified and all compliance requirements have been fulfilled, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issues the FSSAI Registration Certificate or License. The approved business receives a unique 14-digit FSSAI license number, which must be displayed on food packaging, invoices, menus, and business premises as applicable. This license confirms that the food business complies with food safety regulations and is authorized to operate legally in India.
